Building a solid plan is very important to your business success.  In order to conduct a proper plan you will need to conduct market research. Make sure your website has some type of “call to action”

You spent a lot of time and dedication to building a great website. Unfortunately, building the website and leaving it there is not enough. You need to make sure you are capturing contact emails or other contact information from you visitors. You can do this by offering a free download, asking to join your newsletter or anything else that would prompt your visitors to sign up for more.

Do You Have a Teenpreneur?

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Do you have a son or daughter that has an entrepreneurial spirit?

Does your son/daughter always come up money making ideas?

I have the privilege of facilitating the Black Enterprise Teenpreneur Conference for the third time this year. Each year I am amazed at the talent and skills of our youth and inspired to do more for the youth in my community. Last year I had the privilege of meeting Adam and Jonathan Holland, owners of AJ’s Hawaiian Iceez. AJ’s Hawaiian Iceez is a mobile shaved ice business started to help their parents with their younger sisters private school tuition. They won the 2011 Black Enterprise Teenpreneur Award for their commitment to realizing their dreams.
The Black Enterprise Teenpreneur Conference teaches students to explore the topic of entrepreneurship and learn from successful business owners. If you have a teen that could benefit from the Black Enterprise Teenpreneur Conference then make sure you register them today. REGISTER NOW!

Guest Post by Nabukenya Muwonge

Tracy was 30 years old and too scared to pursue her dream. Her father’s comments and complaints kept ringing in her head: “you’re supposed to be settled, you’re old now. When I was your age I had my Masters and my own house……”
But the truth of the matter was that even though Tracy was good at her job, it was strangling her spirit. Conventional wisdom, the credit crunch and the general instability of the economy kept silencing the panic. “You can’t make money as a coach!” one person said. “Being a consultant is really, really hard” said another. “It’s better to have a permanent position….” her Mom said, over and over and over, anytime she suspected Tracy was going to take the leap. You are a Startup, So Act like a Startup!

You do not need a fancy office, the newest iPad or to take your clients to five star restaurants for lunch every day. You are a startup so act like a start up. Startup capital is limited and is the bloodline of your business. You need to maintain low overhead and learn to barter for additional business services you may need. Start thinking like a frugal entrepreneur and keep track of your expenses.

International Women’s Day~ I am REdefined!

It’s International Women’s Day

Today we salute the many women who are mothers, sisters, friends, coworkers and so much more. Today is your day to stand tall and be proud of all the challenges, accomplishments and things to come.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of celebrating International Women’s Day a day early at the Tastemakers Magazine Tweetup featuring Sophia Nelson. If you don’t know who Sophia Nelson is then you need to find out after you read this post.
She is the author of “Black Women Redefined” and an “accomplished business woman on the move”. We were blessed with her presence and words of wisdom focused on why we need to redefine ourselves. This book is not just for black women but for all women. Still in 2012, women are discriminated and stereotyped into categories that are not befitting to us as a whole. We are pushed around and forced to play by rules that were not designed for us to win.
I left the Tweetup with my head held high reclaiming my power and prestige as a woman! I was surrounded by powerful and and courageous women that helped confirm that we are not only beautiful but worthy of all our accomplishments.
